- The tourism sector in Algeria is considered a strategic sector for development, alongside agriculture and industry. An investment of €3.8 billion has been mobilized to finance public and private tourism projects in the country.
- The main objective of the Algerian authorities is to increase accommodation capacity, currently at 120,000 beds across 1,184 units, to reach 200,000 beds by 2030.
- More than 40% of tourism projects are concentrated in the cities of Algiers and Oran, with a total of 388 projects in these two cities alone.
- In February 2020, the Ministry of Tourism approved 2,466 tourism projects, expected to create 317,000 beds and 124,000 jobs. Among these projects, more than 500 were already under development nationwide.
- Algeria has 220 tourism development zones (TDZ), including 166 in coastal areas, 36 in mountain zones and 23 in Saharan regions. together, these zones cover more than 56 000 hectares, providing significant potential for the development of new tourism projects
